Nicola Verderame is PhD in Ottoman History. He was Doctoral Fellow at the Berlin Graduate School Muslim Cultures and Societies (Free University Berlin). His research project had the title "Monuments to Charity: Water Infrastructures in the Hamidian Period", and analysed late Ottoman public works from the point of view of the actors involved in the mushrooming of monuments celebrating the sultanate.
Besides the research activity centred in the Ottoman archives in Istanbul, Nicola Verderame regularly publishes translations of Turkish contemporary poetry in Italian, both on online platforms as well as in journals such as Testo a Fronte, Atelier, LEA. He has published translations of Turkish fiction into Italian, published by prestigious publishing houses such as Feltrinelli, Mondadori, Nottetempo.
His research interests include Urban History, Ottoman and modern Turkish poetry, travel literature, world exhibitions, and cultural history of the Ottoman Empire.
